Reports of people chased by knife-wielding teenager in Sneinton

A teenager has been arrested after someone was reportedly chased with a knife.

Police received multiple reports of someone brandishing a large knife during a chase involving two groups in Sneinton Boulevard, Sneinton.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested minutes later by officers from the city south Operation Reacher team, who were responding to the incident on Tuesday (22 March 2022).

Officers then attended a house in Lord Nelson Street, Sneinton, where they seized a large knife that was found hidden down the back of a sofa.

The 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been released under investigation.

Inspector Karl Thomas, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “After responding to reports that a knife had been seen during a chase involving two groups, police quickly attended the area and identified a suspect.

“A 16-year-old boy was arrested at the scene, with a large knife then seized from a house in Lord Nelson Street shortly afterwards.

“Carrying a knife is very dangerous and there is never an excuse for anyone to have one in their possession in a public place.

“Keeping people safe is our number one priority as a force, which is why we treat all reports of knife crime seriously and look to resolve these incidents as quickly as possible.

“If anyone witnessed this incident, which took place at around 5.25pm on Tuesday (22 March 2022), or has any information about what happened, it’s important that you get in touch with us right away by calling 101, quoting incident number 591 of 22 March 2022.”
