Resident to pay over £650 for fly-tipping offence

On Thursday 6 November Newark and Sherwood District Council was successful in its prosecution against a resident for fly-tipping offences.

A spokesperson for the authority said:

‘The prosecution was brought against Esther Doughty for an offence under S.110 of the Environment Act 1995. Miss Doughty failed to appear in court.

‘Miss Doughty was convicted in her absence of failing to assist in the investigation into a large fly-tipping on the Oxton Bypass and ordered to pay £101 with a victim surcharge of £40 and contribution to prosecution costs of £511.15. This amounts to £652.15.

‘Fly-tipping is a serious offence. We take environmental offences incredibly seriously and we will take decisive action to ensure the continued protection of our environment.’
