As has been reported recently, some streets of Radford and Lenton are often strewn with unsightly litter and poorly managed waste.
The littering is especially around areas with large numbers of HMOs ( Houses in Multiple Occupation ).
Many local residents in the area are either very elderly or have young families, so few are in a position to clean up the mess made by others.
A few able-bodied Individuals pick litter when they can and the road sweepers and council workers do their best when they have resources available.
Sadly though, it is a huge problem in the area and so hard to keep on top.
Local students often report seeing large rats in in their gardens and on the streets in some of the worst parts of Radford and the stench walking down certain streets is quite unpleasant.
Yesterday ( Saturday 3 July ) residents and councillors joined forces with Clean Champion Volunteers from across Nottingham to tackle the problem, focusing on Lenton Drives and The Triangle area of the neighbourhood.
Volunteers from ge 7 to 77 turned up with their litter pickers, hi-vis jackets and litter picking trolleys ready to tackle the area.
All in all, more than 25 bags of litter were collected over a couple of hours and the purple bags left ready for the council to collect.
With the amazing efforts of all involved, it was possible to clean up significant areas and many residents came out to thank volunteers as they worked.
The team said it was so lovely to meet new people, kind enough to give their time to helping out in a different neighbourhood and all were passionate about having a positive impact on our environment and keeping it the lovely place to live that it is.
