Retford: Cyclist killed in collision with van – one arrested

Nottinghamshire Police attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a van on Sunday 28 January.

The incident happened at 9:20 am at the Cottam Road junction with Rampton Road in Retford and the cyclist, a 57-year-old man from Gainsborough, sustained a serious injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant Craig Luckett from Nottinghamshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit and Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

“This was a tragic incident where a man has sadly died whilst out cycling.  Specialist trained officers will be supporting the family during this awful time.

“A man has been arrested, is currently assisting the investigation team, and at this time remains in custody.”

The man arrested is 25-years-old and was arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.
