A Ruddington community group have supported the Great British Spring Clean with an organised litter pick this morning (Wednesday April 17), ably assisted by Streetwise.
An eager bunch of volunteers from ‘Ruddington Mums’, which included many families taking advantage of the school holidays, were able to help further clean up their local streets, parks and public spaces.
Last month Rushcliffe Borough Council pledged its support for the campaign and encouraged groups and individuals to organise litter picks in their local areas.
Run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy until April 23, the Great British Spring Clean has seen up to half a million people taking action in the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign.
In Ruddington, over 30 volunteers took action with help from Streetwise Environmental Services Limited who provided high visibility jackets, gloves and litter pickers to assist with their efforts.
Starting at the Green, pockets of volunteers quickly spread across the village in search of unwanted crisp packets, drinks containers and general debris that belonged in the bin.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Executive Manager for Neighbourhoods Dave Banks said: “This is yet another fantastic example of the contributions so many community groups and individuals make to their local green spaces.
“Many local groups run wonderful regular efforts across the Borough and we’re keen to support those groups throughout the year and particularly during these dedicated few weeks of action.
“We are happy to supply litter pickers and bags to residents who want to get involved and Streetwise will arrange for any waste collected to be removed.
Town and parish councils have been encouraged to spread the message to groups and individuals in the hope of more local litter picks taking place across the Borough.
Those wishing to get involved can request all the necessary equipment to help them organise a litter pick by calling Streetwise on 0115 914 8408 or emailing email@example.com
