Ruddington Open Gardens returns for 5th year this June

The 5th Ruddington Open Gardens will be held on the weekend of 13 and 14 June.

Ruddington Open Gardens will return this month with more gardens taking part than ever before.

The event will be held over the weekend of Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June, from 2pm to 6pm on both days.

All proceeds from the weekend will be shared between Save the Children and Action for Children.

This year’s event will feature 20 open gardens across the village, along with two allotment sites. Visitors will also find stalls at various locations selling items including plants, chocolate and ice cream.

Refreshments will be available in some gardens, as well as at St Peter’s Church, the Cottage Hotel on Saturday only, the Methodist Church and the Framework Knitters’ Café on both afternoons.

There will also be a programme of entertainment and activities across the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, The Bling Singers and Ruddington Community Choir will perform, while Rock Choir will give two short performances on Sunday. All performances will be hosted by the Methodist Church.

A flower-arranging demonstration will take place at St Peter’s Church on Saturday afternoon, and a vintage bus will provide transport around the village on both afternoons, taking in as many gardens as possible. Bus rides will be free, although donations will be welcome.

Ruddington Art & Craft Society will give art demonstrations at the Methodist Church, while the Framework Knitters Museum will display a knitted garden created by the Ruddington Yarn Ninjas.

There will also be free entry to the Village Museum for anyone with an Open Gardens programme.

Children under 12 are being encouraged to enter a miniature garden competition. Certificates and stickers will be given to all entrants, with prizes for the best entry in each of three age groups. All entries will be displayed during the weekend.

Further details about the competition are available from Janice at janice_gullon@hotmail.com.

Programmes, including full details of the weekend’s activities and a village map showing all participating locations, are now on sale at Thomas James Estate Agents and several village shops and cafés displaying posters.

Admission is £5 per adult, covering both days, while accompanied children can attend free of charge. During the Open Gardens weekend, programmes will also be available from the Methodist Church and any open garden or venue displaying sunflower boards.
