Rushcliffe Arena’s Café Vita is the latest outlet to sign up to Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Refill Rushcliffe scheme enabling the public to refill their reusable water bottles and reduce single-use plastics.

Customers visiting the café operated by Parkwood Leisure can now request to have their reusable water bottle filled free of charge as part of the initiative.

In June the authority announced exploring the award winning national ‘City to Sea’ scheme where businesses and community venues can act as a filling up point for thirsty passers by.

Now they can refill their bottles, signposted by stickers in participating outlets windows and via the scheme’s app.

Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Cllr Simon Robinson said: “We are very pleased to see one of our contractors Parkwood Leisure coming on board for Refill Rushcliffe.

“We’re encouraging more local outlets to embrace this scheme and join us in our efforts to reduce the volume of single-use plastic water bottles.

“They simply need to search for the app, download it and register, it takes just a matter of minutes.

“Signing up will reduce the number of bottles that are needed to be purchased as residents and visitors use their reusable cups and means businesses can be even more responsible around their environmental values.”

Luke Colaluca General Manager of Parkwood Leisure sites in Rushcliffe explained the scheme further supports their endeavours to reduce single-use plastics throughout the leisure centres in the Borough.

He said: “Since January, we have significantly reduced single-use plastics from the Café at Rushcliffe Arena in line with all other Parkwood Leisure sites, offering environmentally friendly alternatives instead.

“Joining Refill Rushcliffe is a perfect fit for us in terms of our efforts to become improve our environmental credentials and we would encourage all customers that visit us to bring a reusable water bottle that we can now refill on request.”

More volunteer co-ordinators are being sought to help engage local communities with the scheme and assist with registering venues and businesses who wish to support the initiative.
