Rushcliffe residents who did not receive a central government £400 energy payment last year due to not paying their energy via a domestic electricity supply contract, are set to be updated on new Energy Bills Support Scheme (EBSS) alternative funding in the coming weeks.
The scheme targets households who are responsible for paying for the energy used in their primary dwelling as part of a service charge, rent or another arrangement, for example via a commercial electricity supply contract. Households who are not responsible for paying for their energy use are not in the scope of the scheme.
Those eligible for the support are now invited to apply for this funding by searching ‘apply for energy bill support if you do not get it automatically’ at the www.gov.uk webpage search bar, or through an online search engine.
Assisted digital phone support is available for applicants who are not able to make an online application and can call freephone 0808 175 3287. The contact centre is open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm.
The contact centre can where required, support applicants through the application process, provide support with eligibility questions complete the online form on behalf of the applicant and provide applicants with details on their application status.
Rushcliffe Borough Council has already received applications on this scheme and will make payments from March 6.
The application portal and contact centre will close to new applicants on May 31.
There will be a further update in due course on the Alternative Fuel Payment (AFP) fund that could see domestic dwellings that use fuels such as heating oil, biomass or liquefied petroleum receive an additional £200 payment in addition to the £400 already distributed.
The vast majority of eligible households will receive the AFP automatically through their electricity supplier.
