Rushcliffe Labour to campaign against new build school and homes in Lady Bay after floods

Rushcliffe Labour will campaign to prevent any building on the flood plain in the Borough.

The organisations will co-operate with other local campaigns, in particular to oppose the County Council plan for new houses and schools at the back of Lady Bay.

The whole area covered by the recent Council £450,000 “Feasibility Study” – which has had its release delayed until after the Council elections in May – has flooded once again after the recent rain.

Mike Scott (Rushcliffe Labour Spokesperson) said

“The Council has wasted our money on a so-called Feasibility Study, when anyone can see that building on the flood plain makes no sense at all. You can build anything anywhere if you throw enough money at it, but why build housing and schools on land you know helps manage against flooding?

“Kay Cutts, the Conservative Council Leader, has said publicly that she is sceptical about global warming, but you’d have thought someone would be brave enough to point out the obvious to her.

“We understand the need for more school places and more genuinely affordable housing, but this plan is just plain mad.”
