Rushcliffe villages launch dazzling Living Advent Calendar

The joyful lit-up scenes will be on display from 5 pm to 10 pm each evening until January 2 with activities culminating with the carols event on December 24 at 4.30 pm in Sutton and 5 pm in Granby.

Households in two rural Rushcliffe villages are co-ordinating a dazzling introduction to the festive period with colourful and inspiring living advent calendar displays that light up the front windows of villagers’ homes.

Each day from December 1 to 24, a household will be illuminated with a new display in a Granby or Sutton home, in the same vein as a calendar door being opened, depicting a Christmas scene or theme.

Following a successful similar effort last year, the displays are returning again to bring residents, families, friends and visitors from the villages together with a celebration of the final window on Christmas Eve with ‘Carols on the Greens’ in the villages.

The joyful lit-up scenes will be on display from 5pm to 10pm each evening until January 2 with activities culminating with the carols event on December 24 at 4.30pm in Sutton and 5pm in Granby.

Organisers are also encouraging further towns and villages in Rushcliffe to develop their own advent display trail as a great way to engage their local communities.

Resident Julie Powell said: “We were delighted with the interest in the windows last year from near and far and with the creativity of our enthusiastic volunteers!

“As in 2018, the parish website www.granbycumsutton.org will publish photos of each new window each day.

“Thanks to every villager who is getting involved and putting such great efforts into the displays, it’s a wonderfully simple idea that we hope will bring even more festive cheer to everyone who sees them.”

More information and a map of the houses taking part can be found on the Granby Cum Sutton Parish Council website here: https://www.granbycumsutton.org/living-advent-calendar.html#
