Schoolchildren from Pierrepont Gamston Primary School spread Easter cheer to lonely elderly people on lockdown

Before their school closed for the holidays, pupils from Pierrepont Gamston Primary School worked hard to make sure the elderly at a nearby hospital had a handmade Easter card this year.

The children made the cards for elderly patients at Lings Bar Hospital in Gamston, West Bridgford to boost their spirits during lockdown.

Children from the school’s year 5 and 6 took part in the card-making activity.

Three pupils then went over to the hospital with the school’s headmaster Aiden Sharp this week to deliver the completed cards which will now be handed out to patients.

Ten-year-old Issac Stacey was one of the pupils who created a card.

He said: “Because of Covid we wanted to do something nice for the patients because they have not seen their family or friends so we wanted to brighten up their day.”

Nina Kikuchi, 10, said: “We thought a card would be a nice idea to cheer them up and not make them feel so lonely.

Nine-year-old pupil Naryan Singh said: “We also made cards for hospital staff because they’ve worked so hard to keep the patients safe and happy through the unexpected lockdown.”
