Second man arrested over ‘appalling’ serious assault in Milton Street Nottingham

A second man arrested in connection with an ‘appalling’ assault on a woman handed himself in after seeing a police CCTV appeal on social media.

The 20-year-old was detained on Thursday night (30 May 2024) on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A 19-year-old man had previously been arrested on suspicion of the same offence in connection with the incident which happened on Saturday 30 March in Milton Street, Nottingham city centre, at around 3am.

A group of women were enjoying a night out when they were approached by a group of men in Milton Street.

An altercation took place between the two groups before two of the men lashed out and attacked a 19-year-old woman.

She was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre with a bleed on the brain and swollen jaw.

Detective Constable Anabelle Lee, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was an appalling attack on a woman who was simply enjoying a night out.

“I’d like to thank everyone who shared the public appeal we issued. Social media is a vital tool to our police service, and the public can be a huge help to our investigations.

“In this particular instance a man handed himself in on the back of our social media appeal. It’s another example of the power the public and social media has to support operational policing and help us solve crimes.”

The two arrested men have since been released on conditional bail while police continue with their inquiries.
