A security guard detained a man after a DVD player was stolen from B&M Bargains.
Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were called just before 8.30pm to the shop in Radford Boulevard, to a report that a man had hidden a DVD player in his coat and then put it in his rucksack before trying to leave the shop.
Andre Miller, 38, of no fixed address, has been charged with theft. He has also been charged with burglary following an incident in Faraday Road in Lenton, Nottingham on Wednesday 8 July.
Detective Constable Colin Kirkup, who is investigating the incidents, said: “It’s such a tough time for businesses at the moment and shoplifting is the last thing retailers need.
“We continue to work hard to disrupt the activity of criminals throughout this second lockdown and to make sure that crime doesn’t pay.”
Miller has been remanded in custody and will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (18 November).
