Notts man in hospital after alleged serious assault with a truncheon

Police have arrested a suspect after responding to a report of a serious assault in Newthorpe.

A man, aged in his 60s, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre for treatment after he was reportedly hit with a truncheon following a disturbance in the street.

The victim, who suffered swelling and bruising, has since been discharged.

Officers were alerted to the incident, in Bartons Close, shortly after 4pm yesterday (Sunday 14 June 2020).

A 61-year-old man was arrested in a vehicle nearby on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Kim Binns, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Our investigators are currently making a number of enquiries to establish the circumstances of the incident.
