Police say that an alarm at Aldi in Bingham was triggered at 01:14 am and officers were on scene within six minutes.
A spokesperson said:
‘A police sergeant and six police constables were dispatched to the incident and a key holder for the store also arrived.
‘There were no insecurities to the exterior doors, a search of the premises was undertaken to ensure that entry hadn’t been gained by other means.
‘The sergeant and the key holder were somewhat surprised to find a domestic pet cat near the main customer doors of the store unable to get out.

‘There is a sign on the door asking customers not to let a cat that regularly attends the store into the store but clearly it had entered today and become trapped.
‘Please pay attention to the sign and if the cat does get into the store let the staff know so it can be removed and go home to its owner who lives nearby.’
