A van has hit a level crossing barrier at Newark North Gate station causing them to be stuck in the down position.
Network Rail is on the way to carry out repairs and said:
“At just after 4pm we were informed that a vehicle had struck a barrier at Newark Castle station.
“For everyone’s safety it is usual practice that barriers are kept in the down position in such situations.
“Network Rail engineers are en route to carry out an examination of the damage and will look to fix the damaged barriers as soon as possible.
“We are sorry to anyone being inconvenienced by this incident and urge level crossing users to be patient whilst the situation is resolved.”
Traffic monitoring site AA Roadwatch reports:
‘Road blocked and queueing traffic due to railroad crossing failure on B6326 Great North Road both ways from Tolney Lane to Manners Road. Congestion to A46 back as far as the A1 (Newark Showground / Air Museum Turn Off). A617 is also queueing. Both Lincoln Road and North Gate are stationary as a result of traffic diverting. A van hit the barriers and they have now become stuck down.’
