‘The M1 in Derbyshire is closed northbound between J28 and J29 near Mansfield, due to a serious collision involving a van and a car. Derbyshire Police, Fire and Ambulance Services have all been in attendance. Recovery is now underway. At this time there are no reasonable estimates available for reopening.

M1 northbound remains closed J28 Mansfield to J29 Chesterfield due to an ongoing incident. Delays are severe approaching the closure. The queue of traffic spans 5 miles back to J27 with average journeys taking 90 minutes longer than usual.

Traffic is held on the southbound carriageway for Air Ambulance.
Road users are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol and exit at J28 onto the A38 westbound. Then take the A6075 Mansfield and Ashfield Regeneration Route (MARR), until it links up with the A617. Follow the westbound A617 and rejoin the M1 at Junction 29.
There is approx. 4.5 miles of congestion on approach to the closure.
