Police arrested a suspect after a shopkeeper was threatened with a knife.
Officers were called to a convenience store in Newcastle Avenue, Worksop, shortly after 2.30am on Friday (9 January) following reports a man had entered the store and brandished a knife after being told he could not have any free items.
The offender left the store before returning a short time later. By this point, officers had arrived and they detained him after finding a knife in his waist band (circled in red).
The 26-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
Detective Chief Inspector Les Charlton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“We understand the impact incidents like this can have on hard-working shop staff and so I am pleased a suspect is in custody.
“Thankfully the shopkeeper was unharmed but this would have been a very distressing incident for him.
“I hope our robust response provides reassurance to the victim and wider community.
“I am also grateful to our uniformed response teams whose actions affected the safe arrest of the suspect.”
