Six arrests after masked offenders attempt series of break-ins in Lady Bay, West Bridgford

Police arrested six suspected burglars after responding to a series of break-in attempts.

Officers attended Rutland Road, West Bridgford, around 9.30pm yesterday (14 July) following reports a group of masked offenders were attempting to break into a home.

As officers arrived at the scene, calls were received about two further attempted break-ins nearby.

Three suspects were detained at the junction of Julian Road and Holme Road, while officers also caught up with three further suspects as they headed towards Trent Boulevard.

Six men, aged 18, 18, 19, 19, 23 and 26, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and remain in police custody.

Detectives will be heading to the area today to trawl through CCTV coverage and conduct other local inquiries.

Detective Sergeant Ben Skellern, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“We appreciate residents in the neighbourhood will be concerned by these incidents, but hope they are reassured by these six arrests and a robust police response.

“Nobody has the right to try and break into another person’s home or to take items that don’t belong to them.

“Detectives will be in the area today as investigations continue. Our uniformed colleagues from the Rushcliffe neighbourhood policing team will also be stepping up visible patrols in and around the area targeted over the next few days.

“On many occasions, burglars just walk into properties without having to do much else, so we’d always advise homeowners to do everything they can to help make it harder for anyone without keys to gain access.

“As part of this, we’d urge homeowners to keep their doors locked, especially at night when they’re asleep, and to close windows too.

“Likewise, we’d also remind car owners to lock their vehicles, and if using a steering wheel lock, to put the keys on a separate key ring to the one used for their car keys.

“Despite these arrests, the investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with any information should call police on 101, quoting incident number 639 of 14 July 2024, or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555111.”
