Six people were arrested, four people were reported for summons and one person was issued a cannabis warning overnight, during the latest round of a successful operation targeting drug-related activity in Nottingham city centre.

Nottinghamshire Police led the latest round of Operation Guardian on Friday (9 August) in to the early hours of Saturday 10 August, as part of the joint initiative organised with the Nottingham Crime & Drugs Partnership, Nottingham City Council, the Nottingham BID (Business Improvement District) and drug treatment providers.

Sergeant Graham Whitt from Nottinghamshire Police’s City Centre Neighbourhood Policing team said: “Operation Guardian is run regularly and targets those who are intent on drug taking, drug dealing and committing violent and antisocial acts while the majority of the public are out enjoying all that Nottingham’s busy night-life has to offer.

“The operation is fast-paced one that uses the most proactive policing tactics, drugs dogs, uniformed and plain-clothed officers to help reinforce the city’s ‘zero tolerance’ approach to drug use and drug dealing in our city.

“The operation receives really positive feedback from the public, who are generally right behind the hard work of our officers and the organisations we work with who work together to help keep our city’s streets safe.

“The results of the operation speak for themselves in the number of arrests made and the number of items that are successfully taken off the city’s streets each time – so you can expect to see the operation returning to the city’s streets again soon!”

“The results speak for themselves”

The following items were seized during the course of the operation, after 34 people were ‘stop and searched’ during the course of the evening:

Five quantities of cocaine
Three quantities of cannabis
Two quantities of mamba
One quantity of amphetamine
One lock knife

Six people were also arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including robbery, burglary, the breach of a community sentence, theft, breach of the peace and failure to comply with a dispersal notice which was in place in one area of the city.
