A man has been charged with possession of class A and B drugs following a proactive policing operation in Nottingham city centre.
A 37-year-old man from Nottingham, will appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 27 October in connection with a stop and search in Clinton Street East at around 8pm on Friday (23 September).
He was arrested for suspected drug offences following the search and later charged with possession of crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis.
Nottinghamshire Police stopped and searched a total of 35 people during Friday’s Operation Guardian – an operation aimed at tackling drugs and associated violence.
Officers used a passive drugs dog to sniff out people who may be carrying or have come into contact with drugs as they patrolled the city’s streets.
During the operation, a second man was arrested in Shakespeare Street on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs.
A 31-year-old was searched and substances found after officers spotted him deliberately moving away from the police dog. He was later released under investigation while tests on the seized substances are carried out.
Sergeant Graham Whitt, who led the operation, said: “Operation Guardian is now a regular feature in the city centre and across the force and is always well received by the public.
“It was a successful night with the recovery of various drugs and a large number of stop and searches carried out, as well as the positive engagement with people visiting and enjoying themselves in the city.
“Proactive operations like this not only help keep people safe but also reassure the public that Nottinghamshire Police takes positive action to prevent crime from happening in the first place.”
