Snowdrop gardens reopen at Holme Pierrepont Hall today

Home of the Brackenbury family, who are descendants of the Pierreponts and go back nineteen generations, the Grade I listed house and gardens will open daily throughout the next month, except Saturdays.

This Sunday sees the stunning winter-flowering gardens at Holme Pierrepont Hall open to the public once again, until the end of February.

Situated just a few minutes’ drive from West Bridgford, the privately owned estate is widely credited with having some of the finest displays of snowdrops, hellebores, and other winter-flowering bulbs in Nottinghamshire.

Snowdrop lovers, known affectionately as ‘Galanthophiles’, typically visit Holme Pierrepont Hall to see the snowdrops that can be seen both in the garden and the woodland. Several varieties of the flower bulb feature in the gardens, including Galanthus nivalis ‘Sam Arnott’, the pretty double snowdrop, Galanthus nivalis ‘Flore Pleno’, and the larger Galanthus plicatus ‘Colossus’.

Hellebores, witch hazels, daphnes, and sarcococcas provide a stunning backdrop for the snowdrops in the East Garden and fill the air with fragrant scent.

Robert Brackenbury told us:

“We have a superb garden team who work to ensure there is new planting, colour, and interest throughout the year, not only for our garden visitors but also for couples choosing to get married at the Hall.”

“There aren’t many local places where you can see snowdrops in one stunning setting, and visitors often comment that the gardens and woodland at Holme Pierrepont Hall are one of their favourite spots to see these cheerful flowers. They particularly like the fact that the gardens offer a variety of winter and spring flowering plants.”
