West Bridgford’s first cycle cafe has closed its doors for good, it opened in early November 2016.
Spoke and Co opened in Trent Boulevard in Lady Bay in November last year but closed down yesterday (November 20).
The cafe idea was for a place for cyclists to relax after a long ride as well as somewhere to get their bike fixed.
Run by former-racing cyclist Tim Beech, the establishment aimed to merge the professionals and the beginners together through the accessible medium of tea and panini.
It reads: “Yesterday we closed the doors at Spoke & Co. The concept had been a dream for many years and we pretty much pulled it off, undone by the biggest slump in bike demand since the early 1990’s – who says timing and luck have no place in business?
‘We are gutted but want to say some big thank yous: Max leading the kitchen and Ryan leading the bikes and repairs – you were with us from day 1 and are brilliant. All our staff – you made us proud. Our customers – Lady Bay rocks; you were fantastic you took us in and made us part of the fabric.
‘All the local bike clubs – we wanted to be your home and think we did that. Our landlord – he shared the dream and invested with us, he is as sad as we are today. Keep Pedalling – Tim & Rosie’
