Stolen van driven by 14-year-old stopped on the M1 in tactical pursuit

Derbyshire Roads Police and Nottinghamshire Police Armed Response units dealt with a stolen van on the M1 at Junction 28. 

A stolen van that failed to stop for Nottinghamshire Police travelling on the M1 was being driven by a 14-year-old, say police.

The van was followed yesterday evening at around 11 pm, Notts Police required support from Derbyshire police to perform a Tactical Pursuit and Containment manoeuvre, effectively ‘boxing’ the vehicle in between police cars to bring the pursuit to a safe conclusion.

A 14-year-old was discovered driving the van, with a 16-year-old passenger.

Both were arrested and lane closures were in place for a time.
