Stunning performances by Nottingham & Union Rowing Club


Junior rowers from Nottingham & Union Rowing Club competed at the National Schools Regatta held on the 2000m long Olympic rowing course at Eton Dorney.

The regatta is the largest junior rowing event in the UK and Ireland with over 5000 competitors from clubs and schools.

Of the seven crews entered five were made it through to the ‘A’ Finals, in sculling and sweep oar boats, being one of the six fastest crews based on early morning time trials. The J15 girls won Gold collecting the King and Picton goblet trophy in the sweep oar eights event and the J14 boys won Bronze in the coxed quad event. Finalists also included J14 girls in the octuple sculls, J15 girls in coxed quad and Championship boys single sculls. The J16 boys and J15 boys also producing strong performances.  The J15 girls returned to National Schools Regatta after winning J14 Octuple Sculls in 2018, again they set a new course record in the final.

Junior rowers train throughout the year and in April attended training camp with over 50 rowers and coaches based at Cheltenham College.

In 2018 the volunteer coaches were recognised for their hard work being awarded ‘Coaching Team of the Year’ by British Rowing.

Nottingham and Union Rowing Club, formed in 1862, is based on Trentside North, near Trent Bridge in West Bridgford, Nottingham.  The club has a thriving junior section, training between 4 to 6 times a week, depending on age, and welcomes rowers of all ages and abilities, see website for details.
