A West Bridgford business is calling on fellow business owners and residents across Nottinghamshire and the UK to collectively help the mothers and children of Ukraine this Mother’s Day.
Elizabeth McKenna, who you may recognise her as the florist from BBC’s The Apprentice, has launched the Sunflower for Ukraine appeal where residents can give as little as £1 to those caught in the horrors of the conflict in the country when paying for any goods in the lead up to and after the annual celebration this Sunday, March 27.
Or they can just donate £2 direct to the cause.
She said: “Sunflower for Ukraine is so simple, all any business has to do is insert the link to the JustGiving page in their website and this directs the viewer to the JustGiving page where they can give directly.
“The charity is DEC Humanitarian Appeal via ActionAid, all funds are paid directly to the JustGiving page by the business who takes part or people don’t even have to buy anything, they can use the links to give directly via JustGiving. It’s just so simple.
“The appeal is designed with three options. Businesses can ask customers to give £1 when they make a purchase. Every customer I have said would you like to give £1 says yes. I just say would you like to give £1 to the sunflower appeal for Ukraine? The answer is always yes!
“Or they can put a product add-on on their website if they for example are a gift shop or even a Chinese takeaway! Or they can just put a link on their website if they don’t have e-commerce and still raise funds in other ways. Then use the JustGiving link to pay in what’s been raised.
“Everyone can do it, every type of business and every member of the community can do something too. Let’s work together this Mother’s Day because when all work together, all these £1s mount up, we can do something special and meaningful when we work together.
“It might be a pub that asks when the bill is paid, a beautician or hairdresser, a mechanic or a scout group and other community organisations. We can all do this. We often don’t know where to start so I decided to act and have put everything together in one place so we can all do it together.”
“A business can also post to social media with all graphics supplied on the sites resources page. If a business wishes to do more where they raise funds themselves they can with a set of simple and easy to use resources. Proceeds are directly to the DEC Humanitarian Appeal via ActionAid, JustGiving page Flower for Ukraine. So there are all the assurances any business requires.”
