Suspect charged after stop and search recovers an axe

A man has been charged after officers recovered an axe.

Officers stopped a suspect just after 3.30pm in Blisthorpe Road, Eakring, on Tuesday (7 June) and carried out a search.

An axe was found and immediately seized.

A 49-year-old man from Newark has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He has been released on bail to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 28 June 2022.

Inspector Matt Ward, District Commander for Newark and Sherwood, said: “Thanks to the quick actions by officers and their quick response we have been able to take a potentially dangerous weapon off our streets and put a man before the courts.

“It’s important that we continue to reiterate that the use of weapons will never be tolerated on our streets and whatever people may think, they will not protect you from harm and can have a detrimental impact on an individual, family and community.

“We have now charged a man in connection with this incident and our investigation continues.”
