Suspect chased and arrested after Nottinghamshire house break-in

A man has been arrested after being chased by officers following a report of a night-time burglary.

The homeowners were woken up in the early hours of Friday morning (24 March) by the sound of loud bangs and believed someone was attempting to break in.

After looking out of their window in Worthington Road, Balderton, they quickly rang the police.

Attempting to stop a suspect, the victim was hit around the face causing him to fall, shortly after 1.20 am.

Minutes after getting to the scene officers scouting the area spotted a man who then ran off in an attempt to avoid the responding cops.

Only 10 minutes later officers located a man wearing only tracksuit bottoms in a garden with other items of clothing close by.

A 20-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of actual bodily harm and attempted burglary.

He remains in custody as inquiries continue.

Detective Constable Andrew Brownless, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Our criminal investigation department is carrying out a full investigation into this incident and are working hard to understand exactly what happened.

“This was a really nasty incident that left the victim needing urgent hospital treatment for injuries to his face and body.

“Burglary is a cruel and heartless act and we know the sheer impact it can have on a family, a community, and a person.

“I want to ask anyone who has any information, CCTV, or doorbell footage to please get in touch with us. Any information could really help us with our investigation.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident number 30 of 24 March 2023, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
