Suspect in court after group fight in Old Market Square leads to serious facial injury

A second suspect has appeared in court after a man suffered a serious facial injury during a fight in Nottingham city centre.

It was reported a group of people were involved in an altercation which broke out in Old Market Square, around 4.30am on Saturday 22 June 2024, with some individuals then moving on to Exchange Walk.

A 20-year-old man was taken to hospital with a wound to his face and was later discharged.

A 26-year-old man from St Ann’s, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 24 June charged with affray and possession of a knife in a public place.

A 29-year-old man, of no fixed abode, appeared before magistrates on Wednesday (10 July) charged with affray and committing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Both men have been remanded in custody until their next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on 22 July 2024.

The injured 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and was subsequently released on conditional bail while inquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Hannah Frame, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Violence has no place in our city’s night time economy and our robust response shows how seriously we take incidents of this nature.”
