Suspected burglar arrested having lunch in victim’s property

A burglary suspect was arrested by police as he sat in a kitchen eating a sandwich.

Police attended a flat in Gregory Boulevard, Radford, following reports a break-in was in progress.

Response officers were there within two minutes of that call coming in, around 5.35pm on Sunday (23 November).

That speedy response ensured police were able to get to the address in time to detain a suspect in unusual circumstances.

Having been invited inside by the occupants, police found an individual sat down in the flat’s kitchen tucking in to a sandwich.

When the suspected trespasser didn’t provide a suitable response as to what he was doing there, police placed him in handcuffs.

A search of his coat pockets then led to the discovery of multiple valuables – including pieces of gold jewellery reported missing from the flat.

Other watches, rings and other pieces of jewellery were also recovered by the response officers in attendance.

Having already arrested the 33-year-old man on suspicion of that burglary, police realised he was wanted as a suspect in a separate break-in too.

That one reportedly happened on the morning of 13 November, with belongings taken from within a property in Norton Street, Radford.

Based on this apparent link, the man was additionally arrested on suspicion of a second burglary.

Sergeant James King, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The officers involved in this response did a great job arriving at the property in question as quickly as they did.

“Within two minutes of the call coming in, police were inside the flat and had detained a suspect, who was sat down in the kitchen eating a sandwich.

“Having arrested the suspected trespasser for that offence, the officers then realised he had potential links to a separate break-in from around a week earlier too.

“In addition to making this arrest, our officers were able to recover what appeared to be several pieces of stolen property, so this proved to be a good job all-round.”
