A 41-year-old man was arrested under suspicion of burglary after entering a house, sitting down at the dinner table, eating grapes from the worktop and drinking the victim’s orange juice.
It was reported that an unknown man entered the house on Norman Avenue yesterday through the conservatory doors and started to eat from the fruit bowl.
The man also shook the hand of a man of the victim before being escorted out of the property.
Detective Sergeant Andy Hall is leading the investigation. He said: “The arrested man had no permission to be there or to eat the victim’s food.
“I’m sure the occupants was shocked to see the man enter their house and then sit at their table and start eating.
“The female victim alerted a neighbour, before the man was frog marched out. Police Community Support Officers were called and tracked down the man which matched the description and made the quick arrest near to Station Road.
“The whole episode has been quite distressing for the victims. They are being supported by local officers.
“The man remains in police custody.”
