Suspected drink-driver spotted by police had driven home from pub

A suspected drink-driver is due in court after a van was driven home from a pub.

A Special Constable who was on patrol in Radford Road was alerted to the vehicle when it pulled up alongside officers in traffic. After following the vehicle, the driver parked outside an address in Meadow Brown Road, Hyson Green.

Officers stopped to speak with the driver as he exited the van. He was allegedly unsteady on his feet, talking slowly, and smelled of alcohol. A roadside breath test was conducted, and a suspect was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink-driving at around 7.30pm on February 12.

A 55-year-old man from Nottingham has been charged with drink-driving and appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (March 6). He was granted unconditional bail and will next appear at the same court on June 12, 2025.

Superintendent Chris Pearson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “There is simply no excuse for driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is a selfish act that needlessly endangers the lives of innocent people.

“Drink-driving can have a devastating impact on the lives of motorists and pedestrians.

“The decision to get behind the wheel while you’re under the influence of drink or drugs takes just a split second, but the consequences can last a lifetime.

“As a force, our work is ongoing all year round to prevent and reduce drink and drug driving on our roads and to keep people safe.

“We will continue to target drivers who put themselves and others at risk in this way, taking appropriate action to put suspects before the courts, as well as engaging with our communities and continuing with our preventative work.”

Anyone with information about suspected drink or drug driving should contact Nottinghamshire Police by calling 101.
