Suspected drug dealer arrested in Tesco car park

A man who ran from police was detained, with officers then retrieving a bag of drugs that he threw over a fence.

Officers approached the man in the car park of Tesco Extra in Beeston as they wanted to speak to him about a crime report.

Upon seeing the officers, the man ran into High Road and led police on a chase onto Vernon Avenue, where the suspect was seen to throw a black bag over a fence.

Officers detained the man straight away and recovered the bag (pictured above). Inside it they found cash wrapped in an elastic band and 10 individual deal bags containing cocaine.

The man was subsequently arrested and charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

The arrest took place shortly before 2pm on Friday 23 January.

Magistrates granted the suspect conditional bail and he is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court at a later date.

No further action was taken in relation to the initial crime report after it was withdrawn.

Sergeant Jono Pothecary, of the City Priority Tasking Team, said:

“The suspect thought he could get away from us, knowing full well that we would find the drugs and cash on his person.

“He made the wrong decision to run and we are glad that we managed to quickly detain him and put him before the courts.

“Tackling and preventing drug harm continues to be a priority for us, and we will continue to disrupt those who prey on some of the most vulnerable members of our communities and bringing misery to our streets.”
