Officers from Nottinghamshire Police have evacuated homes after a suspected mortar bomb was found in Ollerton.
Police were called to a report of a mortar found in a garden in Walesby Road in Ollerton at around 1.30pm today (1 June).
Emergency Planning Officer Nick Waltz said: “We believe this device had been there for some time, but we are evacuating people as a precaution while specialist teams deal with it.
“I’d like to thank the local community for their understanding and reassure people that their safety is our number one priority.
“Residents should follow officers’ instructions while this incident is resolved.”
This incident comes after police carried out a controlled explosion on another suspected World War II mortar found on the banks of the River Meden in Perlethorpe yesterday ( 31 May ).
