A man who choked his former partner has appeared in court.
Dan Liddle, aged 34, accused the woman of being unfaithful before subjecting her to a violent assault at a property in Huthwaite.
On the morning of 22 December 2023, he grabbed her around the throat, forced her against a wall, and choked her for several seconds.
After fleeing the property, the woman took refuge in a nearby supermarket.
Liddle was arrested on 2 January 2024 and denied any wrongdoing to police, claiming he had no idea how his victim sustained her injuries. He later pleaded guilty to intentional strangulation.
Appearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday, 17 November, Liddle was handed a 21-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work, made the subject of a rehabilitation order, and given a lifelong restraining order forbidding him from contacting his victim again.
PC Tobias Keep of Nottinghamshire Police said:
“Restricting a person’s breathing in this way is extremely dangerous and can very quickly lead to serious injury or death.
“The victim in this case was understandably terrified when Liddle launched this assault on her, so we hope she draws some comfort from the knowledge that he will never be able to contact her again.”
