Police recovered three weapons from a man’s home and arrested him after investigating a reported theft.
Officers searched an address in Instow Rise, St Ann’s, in connection with a theft in Forest Fields on Monday (15 November 2021).
They arrested a suspect and recovered a sword, BB gun and air rifle along with a quantity of cannabis.
Tougher new laws being enforced by police mean it is now illegal to have certain types of knives even at home in private, as well as it being an offence to carry them in public.
Some of the weapons now covered by the new laws include zombie knives, flick knives, butterfly knives and swords.
Detective Sergeant Nick Wood, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This serves as a reminder that the force continues to use all powers at its disposal to take dangerous weapons off the streets before they can be used to inflict harm.
“It also shows our commitment to taking robust action against offenders and keeping people safe in our communities.”
A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of cannabis.
The arrest and seizures come as the force continues its crackdown on knife crime in support of the national Operation Sceptre campaign this week.
Activity taking place to help prevent crime includes weapons sweeps and patrols and educational sessions on knife crime for schoolchildren and awareness-raising workshops for young people.
Stop and search activity will also be carried out to help keep people safe and a metal-detecting knife arch will be used to help detect and remove blades from the streets.
A knife amnesty is also being held across Nottinghamshire this week, enabling people to leave their unwanted knives in amnesty bins.
People can hand in their knives without fear of prosecution for doing so for the duration of the amnesty.
The bins are at the following police stations in the city: Beeston; Broxtowe; Bulwell; Oxclose Lane; Radford Road and St Ann’s.
There is also a bin at the shared service at Carlton Fire Station.
The county police station bin locations are: Hucknall; Kirkby; Mansfield; Newark; Ollerton; Retford and Worksop.
People are advised to check the opening times of their nearest participating amnesty bin location before they visit.
