Taxi driver found lying injured next to car in Nottingham – 14-year-old arrested

A taxi driver was taken to hospital after he was found lying on the floor by his car following an assault.

It was reported he was struck from behind as he stopped in Castle Meadow Road, Broadmarsh, and that a dispute with customers had taken place just before this.

Members of the public passing by stopped to help, called the emergency services and the man was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries aren’t thought to be life-threatening or altering.

Officers were quickly on scene to conduct enquiries and search the area following the incident, which happened just before 12.15pm on Sunday (31 October 2021).

They subsequently headed to Clumber Street in the city centre, where an 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

A knife was also recovered following this, and the 14-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article.

They have since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Chris Berryman, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Officers worked quickly to attend the scene, search the area and make two arrests, all within the space of around an hour and a half from when the incident is believed to have happened.

“This behaviour is unacceptable, and we will always act swiftly when we receive such reports like this. We hope the efficiency of our officers shown here offers reassurance to communities of just how seriously we take these reports.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and as we investigate this further, we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any information or particularly dashcam footage which may have captured the incident, to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 431 of 31 October 2021.”
