A pursuit ended with an arrest and a motorist nearly rolling a car after hitting a central reservation at a roundabout.
The Ford Fiesta ended up on two wheels after making a sudden right turn and driving over the kerb as it approached the roundabout at speed.
Police had been pursuing the vehicle with their blue lights on for several minutes by that point after it was initially spotted driving with its lights off in Bestwood.
As it was around 1.50am at the time, response officers attempted to stop the Fiesta, which responded by being driven away at speed along Valley Road.
Armed Policing team officers then took over the pursuit when the car turned into Arnold Road and continued travelling along Oxclose Lane on Thursday (10 September) morning.
The next few minutes saw the car reach speeds of over 80mph in a 30mph zone, go through multiple red lights and drive on the wrong side of the road as it headed towards the Redhill area of Arnold.
Having driven on the opposite carriageway while heading towards the junction with the A614 and A60, the vehicle lost control, hit the central reservation while going the wrong way around the roundabout and came to a stop.
An 18-year-old man was duly detained seconds later and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a valid licence and driving without valid insurance.
Sergeant Simon Lacey, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Anyone who views the police dash-cam footage from this incident can see for themselves how incredibly dangerous the standard of driving was.
“Despite it being the early hours of the morning – and therefore pitch black – the vehicle didn’t have its lights on before then taking off at speed when this was spotted by officers on patrol.
“That ultimately resulted in a pursuit, which ended when the car nearly rolled over after hitting a central reservation while approaching a roundabout.
“It was only down to sheer luck and the superior driving skills and decision-making of the police in pursuit that this didn’t result in anyone being seriously injured.
“Thankfully for all involved, that didn’t happen, while our officers were able to arrest a suspect nearby.”
