A teenager has been arrested after a report that a man was threatened and robbed by a suspect who pulled out a machete.
The victim had arranged to meet someone to buy an electronic item for his bike, but during the meeting, a suspect allegedly pulled the weapon from his waistband and lunged at him before stealing his bike.
The victim, who ran off into a nearby garden, wasn’t injured during the incident, which happened in Prestwick Close, Strelley, shortly after 8pm yesterday (Thursday, 14 November).
Following inquiries into the report, police arrested a 15-year-old boy during the early hours of today (Friday, 15 November) on suspicion of robbery. He remains in custody.
Detective Sergeant Chris Mavers, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “While our inquiries remain in their early stages, we are treating this report seriously, and as a result of positive action taken, we detained a suspect in relation to this incident.
“Carrying a knife or bladed weapon in public is a very serious offence that can destroy people’s lives. As such, this kind of behaviour simply will not be tolerated by Nottinghamshire Police, and offenders will be robustly dealt with.
“Investigations into this incident are still ongoing. As such, we are still very keen to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed it or have any information which could help us with our inquiries.”

Nottinghamshire Police has been shining a light on the ongoing efforts by the force to crack down on knife crime as part of the latest Sceptre initiative, which runs until Sunday (17 November).
A number of initiatives have been taking place as part of this, including the rollout of amnesty bins, knife sweeps, school visits, and extra patrols conducted by neighbourhood policing teams.
