A driver who crashed his car into a wall after speeding away from police has appeared in court.
Rocky Price was clocked driving nearly three times above the speed limit by officers from the road crime team who were out on patrol.
After ignoring multiple requests to pull over, he then drove on the wrong side of the road towards oncoming traffic at high speed.
A short pursuit then took place around the Newark area, with Price driving at 80mph in a 30mph zone at around 9.15pm on Tuesday (14 June 2022).
The 18-year-old continued to drive erratically and collided with three stationary cars, causing significant damage to each of them in the process.
He then lost control of his car while travelling at speed along London Road, Newark, and crashed into a garden wall outside a house.
Price was taken to hospital as a precaution after sustaining minor injuries from the incident.
He was arrested at the scene of the crash and later charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance.
Price, of no fixed address, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (16 June), where he pleaded guilty to all the charges.
He had been remanded in custody and is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on 14 July 2022.
Detective Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Price’s actions that night were reckless in the extreme and could’ve quite easily resulted in somebody being seriously injured.
“Thankfully, nobody was harmed in this instance, although that is only down to the efforts of our officers who were in attendance, and pure luck.
“There is absolutely no excuse for any motorist to drive erratically on our roads.
“It’s important that all motorists understand that speed limits exist for a reason, which is reducing the chances of people being put in danger of harm.
“The force is committed to keeping Nottinghamshire’s roads safe, so will always respond swiftly to any reports we receive of dangerous driving.
“We are pleased to see that Price has now appeared before the courts and has owned up to his actions.”
