West Bridgford-based homelessness charity, The Friary, opened its doors again on Christmas Day to serve dinner to around 50 visitors.
Those who attended would otherwise have spent the day on the streets or alone. Everyone who attended received Christmas dinner along with gifts that had been kindly donated by local people.
General Manager Ann Bremner was delighted that The Friary had been able to offer such a positive experience and wanted to thank the generosity of supporters of The Friary for enabling them to provide such a fantastic spread.
Ann said:
“We want to say a huge thanks to everyone who donated financially or with food and presents to make the day as successful as it was. Without this support, we would not be able to offer a proper Christmas Day to those who deserve to celebrate as much as everyone else. Thank you as well to the Mayor of Rushcliffe, Cllr Andy Brown, for giving up his time to come and serve the dinner. We really appreciate him dedicating part of his day to those who are most in need at this time.”
Feedback from those who came along was overwhelmingly positive. One described the “amazing atmosphere”, and another explained how it was “a pleasure to be here and be able to spend Christmas with other people in such a warm and welcoming place”.
