Three arrests in three minutes after moped stolen

Nottingham City West police officers detained three suspects within three minutes of hearing a moped had been stolen.

Neighbourhood officers were out in Aspley when reports came in over the radio about the theft of a motorbike.

Having heard about the theft in Grassington Road at 2.35pm on Monday (8 December), police searched the area.

Fast forward to 2.38pm and the officers in question had spotted and detained three juveniles near allotments in New Road.

They also managed to recover a moped they suspect was stolen during the incident, after finding it abandoned down an adjoining alleyway.

Three 15-year-old boys were all subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

Sergeant Darran Owen, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The neighbourhood officers involved in this stop did a great job responding to this incident so quickly.

“Within three minutes of hearing about an offence, three suspects in a theft had been identified and detained at the roadside.

“Not just that, but the officers were also able to recover a moped they suspect was stolen during the incident.

“Tackling antisocial behaviour is a longstanding policing priority for our City West neighbourhood team, while we’ve also focused on vehicle theft in the past too.

“We’re absolutely committed as a team to cracking down on these types of offences, with this rapid response and result epitomising this point perfectly.”
