Tollerton: Controlled explosion carried out by army teams after WW2 hand grenade found in woodland

A hand grenade believed to be from the second World War was found in the grounds of Tollerton Hall.

A resident reported that the device has been found in woodland neat Tollerton Hall – the woods are not open to the public.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team and Notts Police arrived within 30 minutes of the report.

 

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said:

“A controlled explosion was carried out in the grounds of Tollerton Hall in Tollerton on Friday (4 October) following the discovery of a suspected hand grenade.

“The grenade, which appeared to be from the Second World War era, was found in woodland earlier that day at around 8.15am.

“A 100-metre police cordon was temporarily put in place while Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) engineers dealt with the incident.

“A successful controlled explosion was carried out shortly before midday. No evacuations were necessary due to the rural location.”
