Trailer full of kayaks set on fire in East Leake

Detectives are today releasing CCTV footage as they continue to appeal for the public’s help following an arson attack.

A trailer containing kayaks was set alight outside an address in The Arches, East Leake, at 12.17am on 30 March 2025.

The fire spread through the 18 kayaks inside the trailer, damaged the front of the property, wrote off two cars parked outside and damaged neighbours’ vehicles.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service carried out an investigation which revealed an accelerant was used to start the fire.

Following the incident, CCTV was obtained that shows a lone person starting the fire and detectives have been pursuing a number of lines of inquiry in a bid to trace that individual.

The footage shows the suspect being in close proximity to the trailer when it became engulfed in flames and detectives believe the arsonist may have suffered burns in the incident.

Today we are releasing the CCTV clip as part of a fresh appeal for information.

Detective Constable Annabel Walker, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“This fire caused extensive damage and also put people living in the area at serious risk.

“From our enquiries, we believe the offender is someone who either lives in the area or knows the area very well. It’s really important we find them so we are again appealing for the public’s help.

“Do you know anyone who obtained burns around the date of the incident or know of anyone who owns a tracksuit similar to the one in the video?

“If so, please get in touch without delay. Lighting any fire can have catastrophic consequences so it is really important anyone who can help our investigation does so.”

Anyone with any information should call 101, quoting incident number 58 of 30 March 2025, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
