GMB Union have today announced that workers on Nottingham’s tram network will go ahead with strike action in the ongoing dispute with the operator.
The news comes just 24 hours before the Nottingham Goose Fair, one of the city’s busiest weeks, is due to begin.
Over 200 workers on Nottingham’s tram network, including, drivers, maintenance teams, ticketing, and security staff, will take part in the walk out.
Strike action will begin tonight at 00:01 and last for ten days.
Colin Whyatt, GMB Organiser, said:
“Strike action is a last resort, and it’s no wonder so many Nottingham residents are aghast that tram bosses have let this happen.
“Tram staff do vital work keeping families, businesses and communities moving.
“It’s only right that their pay lets them keep up with the bills and take care of their families.
“Unfortunately tram bosses appear not to agree and workers are being forced to take matters into their own hands”.
NET has been contacted and will shortly release a statement in response.
NET said:
‘Due to industrial action between the 27th of September and the 6th of October, we will be operating a limited tram service.
‘Whilst every effort has been made to minimise the impact on tram services, we will only be operating a limited service on selected dates.
‘For safety reasons, we will not be operating a tram service to the Goose Fair site and therefore we will only be operating a limited tram service which will terminate at Wilkinson Street once the fair has opened.’
