Trent Barton announces fare increases from 28 December

Bus operator trentbarton has confirmed changes to a range of fares and ticket products from Sunday 28 December, citing rising inflation and increased costs for fuel, parts, materials and maintenance across the transport industry.

The company said the revised prices are intended to help it manage growing operational pressures while continuing to invest in services and remain “a really good bus company”.

The Government-backed £3 capped single fare scheme will continue and has now been extended nationally until the end of 2026. Trentbarton confirmed it will continue to honour the £3 cap across its network, with the exception of red arrow services and night buses. The operator said the scheme will remain under review and its usage monitored.

Single fares and contactless “tap on, tap off” prices will change on an individual basis depending on journey length and route, although the £3 cap will continue to apply where eligible.

Changes are also being made to children’s fares. The Young Explorer ticket for under-11s will increase to £1.20.

A number of ticket products are seeing revised prices.

Zigzag tickets, which are used primarily for travel within Nottingham, will increase to the following rates:
An adult zigzag ticket will cost £8.80.
A zigzag duo ticket will rise to £14.50.
A zigzag group ticket will increase to £18.90.
The zigzag plus add-on will cost £3.50.

Saver tickets, which allow unlimited travel across selected zones, will also change from 28 December.
A Saver A ticket will cost £26 for 7 days, £84 for 28 days and £840 for an annual ticket.
Saver A and B combined will be priced at £36 for 7 days, £118 for 28 days and £1,180 annually.
Saver A, B and C will increase to £44.50 for 7 days, £138 for 28 days and £1,380 for an annual ticket.
A trentbartonland ticket will cost £49.50 for 7 days, £149 for 28 days and £1,490 for a year.

Mango smartcard fares are also changing in line with cash fares. Trentbarton said Mango will continue to offer up to a 10 per cent discount on adult cash single fares, excluding journeys covered by the £3 Government-capped fare. Discounts for students, apprentices and young people will also be retained.

From 28 December, Mango daily, weekly and 28-day caps will be set as follows:

For adults, the day cap after 9am will be £7.90, rising to £11.40 for travel before 9am. The 7-day cap will be £46 and the 28-day cap £138.

For students and apprentices, the day cap after 9am will be £7, increasing to £10.50 before 9am. The 7-day cap will be £41 and the 28-day cap £123.

For young people, the day cap after 9am will be £5.60, rising to £9.10 before 9am. The 7-day cap will be £32 and the 28-day cap £97.

Trentbarton also confirmed that 7-day trentbartonland Mango caps will now cover travel on Kinchbus services for the first time.

The operator said full fare details will be available on its website and through its customer services team ahead of the changes coming into force on Sunday 28 December.
