Trio sign on dotted line for Nottingham Rugby

Nottingham Rugby are pleased to announce that three more of the current Green and Whites squad have signed contract extensions to remain at The Bay.

Centre Joe Cobden and scrum half Darryl Veenendaal have put pen to paper on new one-year deals, whilst fly half/centre Will Millett has penned a two-year contract.

26 year-old Cobden will continue as one of Nottingham’s longest-serving players, having joined the Green and Whites from Leicester Tigers back in the summer of 2011.

After an injury-strewn past few years with the club, the former England Under-18 international has returned to full fitness during the current campaign, scoring 3 tries in 11 league and cup appearances so far, adding to a total of 13 tries in 59 games for the Green and Whites.

South African-born Veenendaal (27) arrived from Bedford Blues in the summer of 2015 and will continue his long-standing battle for the starting #9 jersey with fellow half back Murray McConnell, who signed a two-year extension to stay at The Bay last month.

The Northampton Saints academy product has appeared 66 times for Nottingham, scoring 7 times, with 3 tries coming in his 17 matches this season.

23 year-old Millett has committed himself to the club until the end of the 2019/20 season, after impressing in the back line and at fly half.

The versatile former Chinnor and Loughborough Students ace has featured a total of 24 times for the Green and Whites since joining at the start of the 2015/16 season, scoring his first try for the club in December’s 19-19 draw with Jersey Reds.

Incoming Head Coach Neil Fowkes was clearly delighted to have secured the trio’s signatures, saying:

“’Cobbo’s’ been part of the club for the past few years. It’s great that he wants to remain part of it and he’s an integral part of our leadership group.

“Darryl is also part of our leadership group and brings a lot off the pitch, as much as he brings on the pitch. He’s had a really good year for us and we’re happy that he’s committed to us for the next year.

“Will is a developing player and he’s done really well over the past two years and he’s got to the point now where we can reward him for that. He’s signed for two years and that’s cracking news for the club going forward.”

“We want to retain a fair number of the squad, as we did last year. There will be some additions that need to come in, as there naturally are, but we’re just happy that players want to stay here, it just shows the strength of the environment here and how much the players are improving and developing.”

The three re-signings now make it a total of nine players already committed to the club for next season, with many more of the current squad also due to be confirmed in the coming weeks. Keep your eyes on the club’s website and social media, for all the latest signing news and updates.
