Two men have appeared in court after reports of an armed robbery.
Two suspects had contacted the owner of a vehicle for sale online and attended the address to view it.
Once inside their home a couple was threatened with violence but the brave victims fought back and, after a struggle, the suspects made off on foot.
A team of detectives responded to the initial 999 call, supported the victims and gathered evidence and worked around the clock to locate the suspects.
Their dedicated work led to several warrants being carried out in the North Yorkshire area on Thursday (September 22) which resulted in two arrests within 48 hours of the incident which happened at an address in Kirkby-in-Ashfield on Tuesday (20 September 2022).
Mohammed Nawaz Ali, aged 38, of Wakefield, and Muhamed Juwara, aged 18, of Leeds, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (Saturday 24 September 2022) charged with robbery, possession of a knife in a public place and having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.
They were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 28 October 2022.
Detective Inspector Paul Lefford, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “I’d like to commend the investigation team whose outstanding work and resilience achieved this result for the victims.
“It involved persistence and team work to give the best quality of service to the victim and to protect the public.
“I hope the excellent work in this case shows how seriously the force takes reports of robbery and how committed it is to reducing violence in our communities and protecting the public.
“Nottinghamshire Police will always investigate reports and work relentlessly to put suspects before the courts and seek justice for victims.”
