Two men to be deported after serving jail sentences

Two men have been jailed for contravention of deportation orders, after a joint working between Nottinghamshire Police and officers from Romania.

Telus Dumitru, 45 of Haslemere Road, and Leonard Marin, 25, of Grant Street, have both been sentenced to four months in prison. They will be deported at the end of their sentences.

The two men were arrested following proactive patrols by officers in the Hyson Green area.

Marin was arrested after having been deported in May 2019 for persistent offending, while Dumitru had been denied entry to the UK after a conviction for benefit fraud.

Sergeant Timothy Cuthbert, part of the force’s Foreign National Offending Team, said: “We continue to work hard to disrupt organised crime and to target offenders operating in Nottingham.

“These sentences should act as a deterrent to those who come here illegally to commit crime, and have come about thanks to the strong ties we’ve forged with immigration enforcement teams.”
