Two more arrests after brawl with machete in Nottingham

Police have made two more arrests after a brawl in Nottingham city centre where a machete was later recovered.

The incident happened in Lower Parliament Street on Thursday 27 February at around 11.40am.

Officers have now arrested four people in connection with this incident.

On the day of the incident, a 31-year-old man and 28-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of affray. They were released on police bail while investigations continue.

Officers then arrested two boys, aged 16 and 14, on Monday 3 March at two city centre addresses. They remain in police custody.

A search of the 16-year-old boy’s property found a machete, a quantity of cash and Class A drugs.

He has been arrested on suspicion of affray, possession of a bladed article and being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug.

The 14-year-old boy has been arrested for the same offences.

A third boy, aged 16, has also been arrested for being concerned in the supply of a Class A drug during a search of one of the properties.

He is not connected to the knife-related incident in Lower Parliament Street.

Detective Chief Inspector Claire Gould, who is leading the investigation, said:

“We hope these arrests will provide some reassurance to the local community.

“We completely understand how alarming this would have been for the public to see.

“Anyone who brings weapons into our city centre, whether carrying or using them, can expect a strong police response as it simply won’t be tolerated.

“Detectives have worked extremely hard to build up an intelligence picture of what happened in Lower Parliament Street on Thursday.

“We believe we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
